Flat felting, or rolled felting, is a technique that has been used to make felt for hundreds of years. This process starts with laying the item to be felted on a sheet of bubble wrap or a bamboo mat. You then wet the item with warm, soapy water and use a stiff rod to roll up the item in the mat or bubble wrap. Next, you secure the roll with rubber bands and roll, roll, roll, usually fifty to one hundred times. Then you unroll the project, rearrange it on the mat or bubble wrap, add more soapy water and roll again.
